There was a time when the Clintons' "Don't Ask, Don't Tell" policy toward gays in the military was considered a step forward, meaning that witchhunts for gays to purge them from the ranks were over, but gays who didn't want to serve in areas of actual combat could announce their orientation and get out.
Then we were told that DADT was the WORST policy ever and gays NEEDED to be able to parade every June, so the policy was dropped.
Now, apparently, rather than being happy that the policy that was so hated no longer exists, it must retroactively have never existed, which is not how "progress" works.
